Chart Notes

Values of 0% may represent suppressed data. Data is suppressed if the number of graduates is less than 5 or if the number found working is less than 5. Majors for which data is suppressed in all years do not appear in the major list. The graduation year 2017–2019 cohorts have not been in the workforce long enough to complete data in the 3 Years-5 Years periods after graduation. The periods without complete workforce data will appear as 0%. Data will be updated each year as it becomes available.

University of Hawai‘i graduates found in Hawai‘i’s workforce – Metric Logic
Cohort Definition

The cohort for this metric includes University of Hawai‘i degree and certificate earners from academic years 2008 to 2012.

Metric Detail

This metric shows the number of graduates who were found in Hawai‘i’s workforce 1 to 5 years after graduation, by UH campus, degree level, and major.

Information is presented for graduates who:

  • Were found in Hawai‘i’s unemployment insurance (UI) data.
    • Students are considered to be “found working” in a quarter if they had a UI record with wage amount of at least $1.
    • Note, UI wage data does not include information for workers who are employed by the federal government, employed out of state, self-employed, or employed by an organization that does not contribute to Hawai‘i’s unemployment insurance.
  • Were found working at any time (in all 4 quarters or less than 4 quarters) during each year after graduation.

The one year period after an award was earned starts in the next full calendar quarter after the graduating term. For example:

Graduation TermQtr 1Qtr 2Qtr 3Qtr 4
Fall 2007 (Dec 2007)Jan – Mar 2008Apr – Jun 2008Jul – Sep 2008Oct – Dec 2008
Spring 2008 (May 2008)Jul – Sep 2008Oct – Dec 2008Jan – Mar 2009Apr – Jun 2009
Summer 2008 (Aug 2008)Oct – Dec 2008Jan – Mar 2009Apr – Jun 2009Jul – Sep 2009

Graduates who earned more than one degree or certificate may be counted as a graduate more than once, in each combination of UH campus, degree level, and major.

Example:

A student who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from UH Manoa would be counted in each major. However, if the Major filter = “All Majors” the student would only be counted once for all Bachelor’s degree earners at UH Manoa.

Additional Info

The Certificate degree level includes all below bachelor’s level certificates, including Academic Subject Certificates, Certificates of Competence, Certificates of Completion, Certificates of Achievement, Subject Certificates, and Undergraduate Certificates.

For UH West Oahu Bachelor’s degrees only: the Major includes the major concentration. For example, a Bachelor’s degree with a Major = “Social Science” includes the graduates who earned a Bachelor in Social Science (no concentration identified), and the graduates with a Major = “Social Science, Psychology” includes the graduates who earned a Bachelor in Social Science with a concentration in Psychology.
